Worship: What's Your Top-Ten?
July 10, 2009
What’s on your top-ten priority list? Money? Fame? Success? Job? What about Jesus? Is He your number one priority? I think that sometimes we forget that Jesus should be our first priority. I was reading in a book called “Vintage Church,” by Mark Driscoll (2008). He made a very interesting point. He said, “What we hold up in glory is our greatest treasure, deepest longing, and
fountain of hope” (p. 204).
That statement really gets you thinking doesn’t it? Am I holding Jesus up in glory to the best of my ability? Sometimes it’s really hard. It takes hard work and discipline to follow Jesus and honor Him every day of our lives. It’s tough to follow the rules (so to speak). As humans it’s difficult because we have a sinful nature. But you know what? We also have a good nature in us too. This is because we were created in the goodness, image, and likeness of Jesus Christ. He’s on our side.
Jesus gave so much for us. He wants to be and deserves to be our only God. And when we stick to that, following the rules just got a whole lot easier! With Jesus walking in your life, He helps
you with anger and helps us not to worship what others have (envy). When we worship God and God alone, we won’t end up in adultery or stealing! Isn’t that great news?
And as we worship Jesus, He wants our whole life to bring glory to His name–every part. From going to the grocery store, working in your garden, hanging out with friends: Jesus is our number one. God calls us to reflect that through our lives!
My challenge is for us to make that our goal; make Jesus your greatest treasure, your deepest longing, and your fountain of hope. Jesus is the One who fulfills us and gives us hope!
1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
